In the Stockholm+50 virtual dialogue on Monday, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya said that amid the uncertainty of promises of developed countries to channel financing to assist developing countries in dealing with climate change, the Indonesian government continues to take concrete steps to strengthen domestic climate change control policies in detail. Indonesia is committed to taking concrete actions through policies to strengthen climate change control and various forms of implementations.
National Energy Board (DEN) Secretary General Djoko Siswanto on Monday said the government is currently formulating a regulation regarding the purchases of subsidized fuels – Pertalite gasoline and diesel fuel – so that the distribution can be more on target. Djoko said the regulation would be related to two aspects: the increase in world oil prices and the shift of consumers from non-subsidized to subsidized fuel due to price disparities.
Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) said there are still inequalities in carbon trading, with countries such as the United States still controlling the trade. Kadin Indonesia official Shinta Widjaja Kamdani on Sunday said the unfairness of carbon trading would undermine developing countries’ interests. Shinta said the Indonesian government would need to implement many best practices linked to carbon trading procedures in more established or qualified markets to deal with this issue.
During his visit to Germany to attend the G7 Climate meeting on May 26-27, 2022, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif encouraged foreign investors to invest in various energy transition projects in Indonesia.
Through a statement on Saturday, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry’s Official Agung Pribadi said Minister Arifin met with two officials from Siemens Energy and HMS Bergbau AG, two major German companies. The meeting was a follow-up on the previous meeting held at the end of March, he explained. The meeting also highlighted the cooperation between Siemens Energy and state-owned enterprise Pertamina Power in the development of renewable energy in Indonesia (Red/many sources).
