STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT. The General Elections Commission of Indonesia (KPU) said 40 of 43 parties registered with Political Party Information System (Sipol) had registered to participate in the 2024 general elections, and that 24 of the 40 parties have completed their paperwork.

Of the 43 national parties that have Political Party Information System (Sipol) accounts, three parties did not register within the deadline from August 1-14 August. One of them is the Indonesian Student Party or Partai Mahasiswa Indonesia.
“Three political parties, namely the Peace and Prosperity Renewal Party (Partai Damai Sejahtera Pembaharuan), the Indonesian Student Party, and the People’s Party (Partai Rakyat), have not registered until the deadline for registration on August 14, 2022, at 23:59 WIB,” said the Commissioner of the Indonesian KPU (General Elections Committee), August Mellaz, Monday, August 15.

Gov. Annies Baswedan says he will “respond positively” if a political party nominates him as a candidate for Indonesian president, expressing his willingness to compete in the 2024 election.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, who took office in 2014 and was reelected in 2019 is constitutionally barred from a third term. The race for his successor has already become a key political issue in Indonesia.
Polls show Baswedan is among the popular names for the next leader of Southeast Asia’s largest economy, but he has remained relatively quiet on his potential candidacy.
President Jokowi was emphasized there should be no more identity politics and the politicization of religion in the 2024 elections. He asked the public to support the General Elections Commission (KPU) which has started the preparations for the election stages. He also called for national consolidation and more mature democracy in Indonesia.
President Jokowi’s appeal against identity politics in the 2024 elections has strengthened hopes of a safe and peaceful election, People’s Consultative Assembly Deputy Speaker Jazilul Fawaid has said on Tuesday. Jazilul also lauded the President’s appeal against identity politics as well as discriminatory and divisive conduct during the election (Red/many sources).
