STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT. IKN Authority Deputy on Friday said that the Indonesian Capital Authority (OIKN) together with the United States are collaborating to build an integrated command and control center (ICCC) in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) located in parts of Penajam Paser Utara Regency and Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province.
Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago said that this cooperation is a form of the United States Government’s commitment to support the development of the IKN and the close relationship between the two countries. The launch of the ICCC development project is a continuation of the signing of a grant worth 7.6 million US dollars from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) on September 20, 2024.
Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid met with U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago and U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir at the ministry office in Central Jakarta to discuss strengthening cooperation in the field of digital technology.
The cooperation discussed, which ranges from AI to smart cities, is expected to result in inclusive and equitable digital transformation outcomes in Indonesia. In terms of smart cities, Meutya said that there are already 12 U.S. companies that are interested and will visit Jakarta, Denpasar, and the future capital Nusantara.
President Prabowo Subianto said that Indonesia’s decision to move the capital city to the Indonesian capital in East Kalimantan was influenced by climate change that has impacted Jakarta. Prabowo said the rise in sea levels triggered by global warming has eroded Indonesia’s coastal areas, especially the northern coast of Java Island. He said that the sea level in this area is rising by five centimeters every year.
