STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT. The authority head of the State Capital of Nusantara or IKN, Bambang Susantono mentioned that thirteen UN agencies have expressed their support for the development of Indonesia’s new capital city. These UN agencies consist of ESCAP, FAO, ILO, IOM, UNDP, UNEP, UNESCO, UNFPA, UN-Habitat, UNICEF, UNIDO, UNOPS, and UN Women.
Bambang explained that these agencies view IKN as a “Living Laboratory”. “They are given the opportunity to birth new knowledge to face global challenges,” he said during the opening of the 6th Spatial Planning Platform (SPP) Conference in Balikpapan.
Investment Minister/BKPM Chair Bahlil Lahadalia disclosed that the reason the government is currently pulling the brakes on foreign investment in the National Capital City (IKN) is that the government is still prioritizing domestic investors.
Nevertheless, Bahlil did not close the opportunity for foreign investors to invest in Indonesia. Furthermore, he said that currently there are more than 200 letters of intent (LOI) for investment from within the country and abroad stating that they are ready to invest in the new capital.

During a recent interview, Michael Widjaja, CEO of Sinar Mas Land — the property arm of Indonesian conglomerate Sinar Mas Group, controlled by the Widjaja family — said it has invested in the launching of a hotel in Nusantara.

The Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) is collaborating with four U.S information technology (IT) companies to support the development of Indonesia’s new capital city (IKN) Nusantara. OIKN Chair Bambang Susantono said the OIKN had secured five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with four technology companies and one educational institution. The four U.S. technology companies that have signed MoUs with OIKN are Cisco, Autodesk, Microsoft, and Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI).
The Nusantara National Capital Authority (OIKN) and Stanford University’s Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability have formed a partnership to conduct sustainable research and innovation. OIKN Chair Bambang Susantono said in a statement issued in Jakarta that the research will focus on water management, sustainable urban development, and robotics, among other topics. The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will see the establishment of a Stanford research center has been established in the national capital’s (IKN) core area.
President Jokowi said that the government still prioritizes the interest of domestic investors despite the submission of 300 letters of intent (LoI) from foreign entrepreneurs for the national capital city (IKN) of Nusantara megaproject. Although only limited to interest, President Jokowi believes that foreign investment interest in IKN will continue to grow on a daily basis.
National Capital Authority (OIKN) Deputy Agung Wicaksono said there were 305 investors who expressed their interest in investing capital in the development of the IKN. As of November, the government had received 305 letters of interest (LOI) for investment in IKN. Of the 305, 172 were Indonesian investors, while 133 were foreign investors. He explained that there were 27 investors from Singapore, 25 investors from Japan, 19 investors from Malaysia, 19 investors from China, nine from South Korea, and seven from the United States.
