STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT. Jakarta. Since 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping has been promoting belt and road initiative (BRI) and he has said in Kazakhstan and Indonesia. Chinese as one of the biggest economic power in the world has been used BRI programe to enhance and spreading their political, economic and military on global landscape and architecture to ensure Chinese as the global player. Until 2019, BRI has signed 125 countries.
Many countries which had signed in BRI, lastly they were not capable to repay their foreign debt to Chinese such as Sri Lanka, Uganda, Kenya and Maldives, including Greece. In many countries in Africa and wherever Chinese has been invested, it was reported that Chinese has been occupied their oil and gas, including human rights violence also human resources disturbance especially for local human resources.
Mean while, Indonesia is not interest to sign BRI yet, but many infrastructure project in Indonesia have been investated by Chinese. Eventhough Indonesia’s foreign debt has raised, the government has declared they have capability to repay, so its does not trigger political and security instability, but anti government groups have still used and propaganded foreign debt issue as sexy and strategic issue to topple the government (Red).
