STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT. Since new era order, the problem of the division of Papua’s province has been resulting pro and contra. Even though, Indonesia will have 3 new provinces in Papua are South Papua Province, Central Papua Province and Central Mountains Province, because on April 6th , 2022, House of Representative had accorded the bill of the Papua are South Papua Province, Central Papua Province and Central Mountains Province.
The division of province is President Jokowi’s policy responding his meeting with 61 Papua and West Papua prominent actors on September 10th, 2019. The division of province can be predicted still raising resistences which come from Papua People Assembly (MRP), political elite in Papua, bureaucracy elite in Papua, accademia, pundits, and NGO’s activies who are supported or affiliated with the resistance group in Papua through mass rallies, propaganda on social media or mass media.
The next challenges after the division of province are how developing and empowering the quality of education, health and public services generally in Papua and especially in 3 new provinces so that the society do not interest to join with separatist group in Papua. Last but not least, the division of Papua’s province must be implemented (Red).
